FBA Logistics Service from Shenzhen and Shanghai to USA

FBA Logistics Service from Shenzhen and Shanghai to USA

An FBA logistics service from Shenzhen and Shanghai to the USA moves inventory from factory floor to Amazon fulfillment center in one controlled chain: supplier pickup, consolidation, FBA prep and labeling, export clearance, ocean or air freight, US customs entry, and final-mile delivery with an appointment. Sunny Worldwide Logistics (SZ) Limited (SWWLS), a freight forwarder established in 1998, runs both origins from China - Shenzhen for Pearl River Delta suppliers, Shanghai for the Yangtze River Delta - under one quotation and one point of accountability.

Why the Origin Port Decision Matters More Than Sellers Expect

Choosing between Shenzhen and Shanghai changes transit time, cut-off risk and inland cost before a single container is booked.

Most Amazon sellers sourcing in South China ship from Shenzhen, where the port sits inside the manufacturing belt and cargo reaches the terminal the same day it leaves the factory. Sellers sourcing in Zhejiang, Jiangsu and the greater Shanghai area ship from Shanghai, where sailings to both US coasts are frequent and the inland haul is short. Getting this decision right avoids the most expensive mistake in the chain - trucking cargo across China to catch a sailing that was never the closest option.

Origin

Suited to suppliers in

Why sellers choose it

Typical first-mile time

Shenzhen (Yantian, Shekou)

Guangdong, Fujian, and the Pearl River Delta

Short factory-to-port haul; frequent sailings to the US West Coast; strong fit for electronics and consumer goods

Same day to 1 day

Shanghai (Yangshan, Waigaoqiao)

Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta

Balanced service to both US coasts; strong fit for textiles, home goods and machinery

1-2 days

Both, combined

Multi-region supplier bases

Consolidate several factories into one shipment, one customs entry and one FBA delivery

2-4 days

For sellers buying from suppliers in both regions, running the two origins through one forwarder avoids two export declarations, two sets of shipping documents and two delivery appointments at destination.

What the FBA Logistics Service Covers

A complete China-to-US FBA program covers the following stages. Anything left outside the program becomes the seller's problem at the port of discharge.

1. Supplier pickup and receiving in Shenzhen, Shanghai or both, using in-house trucking at Shenzhen sea port

2. Warehousing, quality checks and consolidation of multiple suppliers into one shipment

3. FBA prep: FNSKU unit labeling, poly bagging or bundling, carton sealing and box ID labels

4. Export customs clearance in China

5. Ocean freight to a US West Coast or East Coast port, or air freight where speed is the priority

6. US import customs entry, duty and tax handling, and ISF filing

7. Inland trucking to the allocated Amazon fulfillment center, including the delivery appointment

8. Delivery confirmation and handover documents for the seller's records

The commercial value is a single landed cost: the price agreed at booking covers the whole chain, so a rate change at sea or a customs query does not arrive as a surprise invoice.

US Inbound Requirements: Amazon's Rules at the Door

Amazon's requirements are enforced at the receiving dock, and a shipment that fails them is refused or reworked at the seller's expense. Four groups matter most for China-origin cargo.

Pallet specification. Amazon's Seller Central help page on seller requirements for LTL, FTL and FCL deliveries specifies 40 x 48 inch, four-way access wooden pallets - plastic, cardboard and particle board pallets are not accepted. The total weight of a pallet must not exceed 1,500 lb, and the load must be no higher than 72 inches, including the pallet itself.

Carton weight and safety labels. According to Amazon's shipping and routing requirements, boxes may exceed 50 lb but must not weigh more than 65 lb, and any box above 50 lb must carry a Team Lift or Heavy Package safety label. Cartons must be rigid, six-sided and sealed, with a single clear address label.

Unit-level labeling. Amazon's product packaging requirements state that every unit needs an exterior scannable barcode label with the matching human-readable number, applied so it survives handling and stays readable.

Shipment creation and placement. Shipments are created in Seller Central, which issues the shipment ID and labels, and Amazon applies an inbound placement service fee that varies with how the inventory is split across fulfillment centers.

The practical rule: verify the pallet and carton specification against the current Seller Central pages before cargo leaves China, because these figures are updated by Amazon and a shipment built to last season's numbers can be refused.

US Customs: Entry, ISF and Who Acts as Importer

Three customs items decide whether a China-to-US FBA shipment clears in days or idles at the port. They apply whether the cargo is a full container or a consolidated LCL shipment.

Item

What it is

Who handles it

Formal customs entry

The declaration that releases commercial cargo into the US, filed by a licensed customs broker

The importer of record, through its broker

Importer Security Filing (ISF)

Advance cargo data that US Customs and Border Protection requires no later than 24 hours before the goods are loaded aboard a vessel bound for the United States

The importer or its agent, at origin, before loading

Duty, taxes and customs bond

Duty assessed by commodity code and origin, plus a continuous or single-entry bond that must be in place before entry

The importer of record

In a standard FBA arrangement the seller is the importer of record, which means the seller needs a US customs bond, a broker appointed through a power of attorney, and a US business presence or a partner who can serve as importer. Where a seller does not want that role, a DDP program places it with the forwarder's US entity and returns a single all-in price - at the cost of visibility into how duty was assessed.

One timing note that catches new importers: ISF is filed at the origin end, before the container is loaded, not on arrival. A late or missing filing triggers penalties even when the cargo itself is perfectly compliant.

Transit Times by US Gateway

Transit time is set by the gateway, not by the sailing alone. Published industry transit guides put ocean freight from China to the US West Coast at about 15-22 days port to port, and to East Coast ports at about 25-35 days.

Mode and gateway

Port-to-port transit

When to use it

Ocean to US West Coast (Los Angeles, Long Beach, Seattle)

15-22 days

Fastest ocean option; suits sellers whose fulfillment centers sit west of the Rockies or who accept IPI inland transit

Ocean to US East Coast (New York, Savannah)

25-35 days

Suits East Coast and Southeast inventory positions and full-container volumes

Air freight to a US airport

8-10 days door to door

Urgent restocks and high-value, low-weight products

Express courier

3-5 days

Samples and launch quantities only

Total door-to-door time adds export clearance, ocean transit, US entry and the fulfillment center appointment. As a planning figure, a West Coast ocean shipment from Shenzhen or Shanghai generally lands at the Amazon dock within 30-40 days, and an East Coast shipment within 40-50 days, subject to the sailing and appointment confirmed at booking.

Consolidating Multiple Suppliers Into One FBA Shipment

Consolidation is where a China-to-US program earns its cost back. Sellers buying from three or four factories typically receive three or four partial batches, each too small for an economical container and each carrying its own documentation.

Under one consolidation program, suppliers deliver into a China warehouse, where the cargo is checked, labeled and palletized to Amazon's specification, then shipped under one booking. The seller receives one invoice, one tracking thread and one delivery appointment instead of managing parallel shipments - and, importantly, the labeling and pallet build are done by the party that will hand the cargo to the carrier, not by a factory that has never shipped to Amazon.

Five Mistakes That Delay China-to-US FBA Shipments

1. ISF filed late or not at all. It is due 24 hours before loading at origin; a missing filing creates penalties and holds regardless of how good the freight rate was.

2. Pallets built to the wrong specification. Non-wooden pallets, loads over 72 inches, or pallets above 1,500 lb are refused or rebuilt at the seller's cost.

3. Labels created after packing. FNSKU unit labels and box ID labels must come from the live shipment in Seller Central; labels produced by a factory working from an old file cause receiving errors.

4. Cartons over the weight limit without safety labels. A carton above 50 lb without a Team Lift label is a receiving exception; above 65 lb it is refused outright.

5. Booking late in peak season. From August through October, space to US coasts tightens and fulfillment center appointment slots queue - sellers who book 4-6 weeks ahead keep their launch dates.

Why sellers consolidate the whole chain with SWWLS:

- Established 1998, more than 20 years in international freight - a full-service domestic and international forwarder based in China

- Own trucking company at Shenzhen sea port - direct control of the first mile, which is where missed cut-offs originate

- Dual-origin coverage - Shenzhen for the Pearl River Delta and Shanghai for the Yangtze River Delta, on one booking and one set of documents

- US compliance experience - customs entry documentation, ISF filing coordination, customs bond and duty handling for FBA programs

- 1,800 sqm Class A office - dedicated operations, documentation and customer service teams rather than a single account handler

What This Means for Your Amazon Business

Three moves keep a China-to-US FBA pipeline predictable:

1. Decide the origin by supplier location, not by habit. Ship from the port closest to your factory base; trucking cargo across China to catch a familiar sailing is pure cost.

2. Lock the pallet and carton specification at booking. Confirm 40 x 48 inch wooden pallets, the 1,500 lb and 72 inch limits, and Team Lift labels for cartons above 50 lb - then have the forwarder, not the factory, build and label the pallets.

3. Start the ISF clock with the booking, not with the vessel. Filing 24 hours before loading at origin is a documentary step, and it fails silently if nobody owns it.

If a product is regulated, or if the tariff exposure on China-origin goods is material to your margin, raise it at the quotation stage so duty and documentation are priced and planned before the cargo moves.

FAQ

Q: How long does FBA shipping from Shenzhen or Shanghai to the USA take?

A: Ocean freight from Shenzhen or Shanghai to the US West Coast runs about 15-22 days port to port, and to the East Coast about 25-35 days. Add export clearance, customs entry, inland trucking and the Amazon appointment: plan 30-40 days door to door to the West Coast and 40-50 days to the East Coast.

Q: Can I combine suppliers from South China and East China in one FBA shipment?

A: Yes. Suppliers in the Pearl River Delta deliver into our Shenzhen facility and suppliers in the Yangtze River Delta deliver into our Shanghai facility, and both batches are consolidated into one booking, one customs entry and one delivery appointment, avoiding separate export declarations and duplicate documentation.

Q: What are Amazon's pallet requirements for US fulfillment centers?

A: Amazon requires 40 x 48 inch four-way access wooden pallets; plastic, cardboard and particle board pallets are not accepted. Total pallet weight must not exceed 1,500 lb, and the load must be no higher than 72 inches including the pallet. Cartons above 50 lb need a Team Lift label.

Q: When must the Importer Security Filing be submitted for a shipment from China to the USA?

A: ISF must be filed no later than 24 hours before the cargo is loaded aboard a vessel bound for the United States, so it is handled at origin before departure, not on arrival. Late or missing filings trigger penalties even when the goods themselves comply with every other requirement.

Q: Who acts as the importer of record for an FBA shipment to the USA?

A: In a standard FBA arrangement the seller is the importer of record, which requires a US customs bond, a broker appointed by power of attorney and a US presence. Under a DDP program the forwarder's US entity acts as importer instead, and the seller receives one all-in landed price.
