Yantian International broke the record!
On August 2, the ocean-going container ship Maersk "Meidi ship" docked steadily at Shenzhen Yantian Port. The crew will put down the cable from the ship and connect it with the power supply equipment of the wharf shore-based ship (hereinafter referred to as shore power), turn the power transfer switch of the ship, turn off the auxiliary engine provided by the ship, that is, convert it to shore power supply.
As of the end of July, the number of connections and electricity supply of Yantian International shore power has exceeded the total number of 2023. From January to July this year, Yantian International Shore Power received a total of 626 ships, twice as much as the same period last year, exceeding last year's total of 595 ships; The power supply for ships calling at the port was about 13.07 million KWH, also twice that of the same period last year, exceeding the 12.44 million KWH of the whole year last year, reducing 10,117 tons of carbon dioxide, equivalent to planting 560,000 trees. In July, the monthly onshore power supply reached 2.4 million KWH, another monthly record high.
Shore-based ship power supply (shore-based power supply) is the replacement of Marine diesel generators (electricity instead of oil) by shore-based power supply to provide required power for docking ships, which can greatly reduce the emission of atmospheric pollutants from ships, meet the emission reduction needs of docking ships, and effectively improve the atmospheric environment of the port area. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, ships can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 98% by using shore power while in port.
As the only port in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area with a depth of nearly 18 meters and a width of 475 meters, which is free from freezing and silt all the year round and can realize all-weather, two-way navigation natural channel for 200,000-ton ships, Yantian International has 20 large deep-water container berths. In terms of port and channel conditions, it has become one of the few terminals in the region that can attach super-large container ships all weather.
As early as 2014, Yantian International began to conduct a feasibility study on the use of shore power, and began to use shore power in 2016. As one of the container terminals in China with the earliest large-scale use of onshore power, the largest onshore power supply capacity and the largest number of berths, Yantian International has built five phases of onshore power projects, which have been put into use, providing 6 sets of mobile power supplies with a total capacity of 24MVA.
Yantian International shoreline ship power supply has a mobile power base station, the connection operation is flexible and convenient; Ship power without power failure, can achieve seamless docking; The power base station can be powered individually (4MVA) or in parallel every two sets (8MVA) to meet the power needs of the world's largest container ships.
Yantian International has established a professional shore power service team to provide high-quality 24-hour shore ship power supply services for shipping companies. At the same time, scientific implementation of preventive maintenance, improve the reliability of facilities, to ensure the safe and stable operation of facilities. Yantian International shore power usage data has been synchronously docked with Guangdong port power monitoring platform, and the accuracy of data collection has been greatly improved.
Yantian International shore power Project has won a number of awards and patents such as "Ministry of Communications Ship Shore Power Demonstration Project", "First Prize of China Water Transport Construction Industry Association Science and Technology Award", "A ship dock shore power supply system and system group utility model patent". Nowadays, shore power service has long been normalized in Yantian International.
All along, Yantian International has continued to practice the concept of green and sustainable development, implemented the construction of green and low-carbon ports, focused on low-carbon energy saving, and protected the blue sky and sea of ports with practical actions. Over the past 10 years (2014-2023), Yantian International has reduced its carbon emissions per container by 33%.
Yantian International is the first port in China to promote the gantry crane "oil to electricity" project on a large scale, and it is also one of the ports that use electricity to drive gantry cranes. At present, there are 222 electric gantry cranes, and after changing the diesel drive to electric drive, each one can reduce exhaust emissions by 95% per lift.
At the same time, Yantian International is also the first port in China to use LNG trailers in bulk. The number of LNG trailers accounted for 60% of the total amount of internal towing at its peak. The use of commutation electric trailers to replace conventional diesel and LNG-fueled trailers is also being explored to promote near-zero carbon emissions.
Starting from 2022, Yantian International will use electric stackers. The electric stacker has the advantages of low energy consumption, zero emission, better stability, higher safety factor and lower comprehensive cost, and the carbon emission of the electric stacker is reduced by 51% compared with that of the diesel stacker. Yantian International continues to promote the clean energy replacement of mobile machinery to help Shenzhen Blue.
As the only railway in Shenzhen directly entering the port area, Yantian International sea-rail combined transport has achieved double-digit growth for five consecutive years (2019-2023). Compared with road, railway can reduce carbon emissions per unit turnover by 90%, and the transport capacity of a fully loaded Yantian international sea-railway train can reach 100 road cargoes. Large-scale transport with higher efficiency is of great significance to reduce environmental pollution, reduce energy consumption costs, alleviate road traffic congestion, adjust transportation structure, and realize the goal of "double carbon strategy".
Yantian International has its own dense route network, providing the market with "dense, multiple, fast and high" quality sea route services, with an average of 6 ships a day to the United States and 4 ships to Europe. It covers the most overseas destination ports, and as the last port of most routes leaving China, it can ensure the fastest delivery of goods to the destination port, such as 22 days to Europe and 12.5 days to the United States.
Up to now, Yantian International has opened 15 inland ports, 31 sea-rail combined transport lines, 13 barge combined ports and 17 barge branch lines, covering the Greater Bay Area, Southwest and central regions. The domestic seamless connection of the national railway network, the external connection of the multi-fast and high shipping services, the strong and strong joint help China's manufacturing to the world.
As the world's fourth and the first hub port in South China with LNG refueling service capacity, Yantian Port Area can provide high-quality refueling services. In June this year, Yantian International set the first time in the country that two international ships completed LNG refueling business at a single terminal at the same time. From January to May 2024, the LNG fuel filling volume of Yantian International has exceeded the annual total of 2023.
In May this year, the Port of Yantian and the Port of Los Angeles signed a memorandum of cooperation to support and coordinate technical exchanges and project cooperation between the two ports in the fields of clean energy, zero carbon and low carbon environmental protection, green infrastructure construction, and improve operational efficiency through digitalization, optimize the maritime supply chain, and contribute to the development of a high-level green Marine economy.
In June, Yantian International once again won the AFLAS "World's Best Green Container Terminal" award, becoming the only port in the world to win this award four times.
In the future, Yantian International will continue to improve the digitization, intelligence and green of the terminal, embrace new quality productivity, strive to build a higher level of international shipping hub, and continue to make positive contributions to "building a green port, protecting the clear water and blue sky".
