The largest deep-water port in northern Vietnam officially put into operation

Vietnam's Hateco Group recently held the inauguration ceremony of the Haiphong Haitai International Container Terminal (HHIT), marking the official operation of this major infrastructure project that took 30 months to build. At the ceremony, Hateco Group signed a strategic cooperation memorandum with APMT, a world-renowned port operator, to deepen port and logistics investment and operation cooperation in Haiphong and other potential strategic locations in Vietnam.

This modern terminal (HHIT) located in the Lixian Port area of Vietnam has welcomed the berthing of the first 216-meter-long commercial container ship "ESL Dubai" on February 6, 2025, officially opening a new chapter of operation. As an important supplement to the southwest extension area of Haiphong International Container Terminal (HICT), HHIT's berths 5 and 6 together constitute the core carrier of the "largest deep-water port project in northern Vietnam".

Sunny Worldwide Logistics has more than 20 years of freight forwarding history, and over half of staffs working in Sunny about 5-13years.Emergency solutions must be offered with 30 minutes if any. You may not find other companies like us in Shenzhen.

According to earlier reports, Hateco Group received the investment green light from the Vietnamese government in March 2021 and joined hands with APMT to develop Hateco Haiphong International Container Terminal (HHIT). The terminal project covers an area of 730,000 square meters and costs about US$351 million. It can expand the throughput capacity of Haiphong Port by about 18%, from about 6 million TEUs to 7.1 million TEUs, and can handle large ships with a capacity of 18,000 TEUs.

During the project construction, APM Terminals shared its global best practices in safety management, port automation, artificial intelligence applications, process optimization and decarbonization technology. The terminal is also included in the "Twin Star Cooperation" east-west route network jointly created by Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd.

Robert Maersk Uggla, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Maersk Group, said: "As the most modern and largest deep-water container port in northern Vietnam, the new terminal will empower business development in a more efficient, economical and green way, create jobs and strengthen Vietnam's connectivity with the world. We look forward to deepening our collaboration with Vietnam and our strategic partner Haitai Group, and using our professional experience to create value for customers in Haiphong and the wider region."

Tran Van Ki, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Haitai Group, emphasized: "In just 30 months, this once dream has become the most modern maritime gateway in northern Vietnam. This is not only a new port, but also a bridge to progress, a symbol of partnership, and a testament to the power of foresight and sincere cooperation. We thank the Vietnamese government for its strategic vision and are honored to work with Maersk and APM Terminals and other international partners, draw on global operational wisdom to create a smarter, greener and more efficient port ecology. "

It is worth noting that the five ultra-large quay cranes equipped in this project are provided by Zhenhua Heavy Industries, with technical parameters such as 68 meters of outreach, 16 meters of backreach and 52.5 meters of lifting height, which fully meet the operation needs of ultra-large ships. With the commissioning of HHIT, the shipping capacity in northern Vietnam will achieve a leapfrog upgrade, injecting new impetus into regional economic development.
