Spending $25 billion, the world's sixth largest liner company builds ships and ports

By 2030, the world's sixth largest liner company, ONE (Ocean Network Express), will invest about $25 billion, increase capacity by 30% through new shipbuilding and mergers and acquisitions, and will promote port construction.

According to Alphaliner, as of March 6, ONE operated 257 vessels with a combined capacity of 1,977,700 TEU, ranking sixth in the world. ONE will build 42 new container ships between 2025 and 2028, and does not rule out the acquisition of other liner companies.

According to the WTO, the volume of global trade increased by 2.7% year-on-year in 2024 and is expected to grow by 3.0% in 2025. In India and Southeast Asia, there is a growing trend to attract production bases for smartphones and electronic components and foster export industries. ONE believes that global trade will continue to expand in the medium to long term as the global South develops.

In addition to ONE, other head ship companies are also building ships. Maersk may have made another strategic shift, abandoning its previous goal of maintaining a fleet capacity of 4 million to 4.4 million TEU and planning to order up to 40 new ships. Cma CGM currently has 82 ships on order, with a capacity of more than 1.3 million TEU, and is likely to place orders for 12 18,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships in the near future.
