CMA CGM surpasses Maersk to become the world's second largest shipping company!

CMA CGM surpasses Maersk to become the world's second largest shipping company!

On February 28, Jiangnan Shipyard, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, won a contract to build 12 18,000TEU liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel container ships, with a total amount of 19 billion yuan.

According to industry insiders, the order was placed by the French shipping giant CMA CGM.

This century-long order coincides with the critical moment when the United States imposes tariffs on China's shipbuilding industry. The choice of the international leading shipbuilders casts a vote of confidence in China's manufacturing with real money.

In addition to being the largest buyer of second-hand container ships in the first few months of 2025, CMA CGM has been busy ordering new ships.

Recently, CMA CGM chose to order 12 LNG dual-fuel 18,000TEU container ships at CSSC Jiangnan Shipyard, which is its second order of large container ships this year.

Highly attention on the shipment more than the owner, site supervising and real-time tracking feedback.

In Alphaliner's liner rankings, other ranking changes are also worth paying attention to. Including the ships already ordered, Evergreen Marine has just surpassed Ocean Network Shipping (ONE) and jumped to sixth place, while Wan Hai Lines has entered the top ten, replacing Yang Ming Marine Transport.

After adding the current total number of orders in hand to the active fleet, CMA CGM has surpassed the shipping giant Maersk in terms of capacity.
