Maersk, Heberod restart Black Sea port services
According to British shipping websites, Maersk Line and Hapag-Lloyd have restarted services to major Black Sea ports such as Ukraine since the Russian invasion.
Hapag-lloyd has launched a sea service between Constanta and Chernomorsk, while Maersk has launched the first container service to Ukraine in partnership with Iteris.
As for the resumption of the Mediterranean shipping service to the port of Odessa (Odesa), the first port call is scheduled for mid-June this year.
Hapag-lloyd has launched a new sea transport service between Ukraine and Romania, connecting the fishing port terminal in Chernomorsk with DP World terminal in Constanta, with flights every five days from today. The advantages of such a connection service include flexible shipping schedules, fresh cold chain cargo and the ability to avoid highly congested inland waterways. It also reduces weight restrictions on overland traffic, facilitates the movement of goods, and reduces red tape and costs in the Port of Constanta.
Maersk recently announced the resumption of its container shipping services following the invasion of Ukraine. Maersk has partnered with Iteris, the operator of the Ukrainian Ocean Line, to use a container ship with a capacity of more than 1,100 TEU to travel between the ports of Chernomsk and Constanta, a service that will help to restore disrupted port trade in the Black Sea region.

Daniil Melnychenko, of Odessa-based consultancy InformallBG, said the number of ships sailing the Black Sea could double in the coming months as more shipping companies participate and more ships are added, helping to facilitate direct shipments of goods from Turkey and Egypt to Ukraine, bypassing Romania.
The Mediterranean Line also plans to resume its offshore service to the port of Odessa in June this year, which will operate between Tekirdag and the port of Odesa, with the first call scheduled for mid-June. Mediterranean Shipping will be the first international liner company to resume operations to Odessa since the full-scale Russian invasion.
Analysts said that before the war between Russia and Ukraine, the Mediterranean shipping Office operated two near-ocean routes to Odessa, making a significant contribution to container traffic in Ukrainian ports.
In addition, the Turkish shipping company Akkon has also started a near-ocean line service to Chernomorsk. Akkon, a company that has continued to serve the port of Izmail since the outbreak of the war between Russia and Ukraine, could use its existing operations to move large volumes of cargo onto large container ships, further restoring Ukraine's disrupted trade.
