Cma CGM has announced the recruitment of 500 female crew members worldwide

CMA CGM has launched a program to promote women's maritime careers - She sails: Empowering at Sea by CMA CGM (She sails Program), which aims to increase the appeal of maritime careers to women and increase women's participation on CMA CMA ships.

For this plan, CMA CGM explained that because the company is concerned about the under-representation of women in the maritime profession, it plans to recruit 500 female crew members by 2026.

According to data released by CMA CGM, only 200 of the company's 12,000 crew members are women, accounting for less than 2%, which poses a major challenge to achieving gender balance.

To this end, her sails program focuses on three core initiatives:

Attractiveness: Introducing young women to maritime careers, particularly within CMA CGM, through ship placements, specific scholarships and mentoring programmes. At the same time, CMA CGM's experienced female crew members will act as mentors to provide guidance and support to new women joining or aspiring to a maritime career.

Promotion: Professional growth opportunities for female crew members. At the same time, CMA CGM will also work with young women engaged in maritime studies to showcase the careers and advantages that CMA CMA offers.

Employee Retention: Disrespectful behavior is prohibited, and female crew members are guaranteed equal access to career opportunities, promotions and pay with respect to male crew members, with equal pay for equal work. It also offers programs such as WE-Women Empowerment, as well as training in leadership, negotiation, and decision-making.

Cma CGM believes that through the She Sails program, the company will attract more female crew members, maritime students and women aspiring to pursue a maritime related career.

Christine Cabau Woehrel, Executive Vice President, Assets and Operations, CMA CGM, said: "Our goal is to promote maritime careers to women. I am proud to launch this initiative initiated by Rodolphe Saade, Chairman and CEO of CMA CGM. We are confident that CMA CGM's crew will support the She Sails initiative and share their experiences to ensure a more inclusive maritime industry in the future."

Cma CGM has implemented a number of initiatives to promote gender equality and diversity, provide more career opportunities, combat all forms of violence, harassment, discrimination, and establish prevention and response mechanisms to ensure the safety and well-being of employees.
