In 2024, Port Klang completed 14.64 million TEU of container throughput, an increase of 4.1% year-on-year and a record high, and is expected to join the top 10 container ports in the world for the first time. Ouyang Hua pointed out that Port Klang can currently handle more than 20 million TEU, of which 14 million TEU in Port Klang West and 6.5 million TEU in Port Klang North, and now the throughput of Port Klang West has exceeded 80%, reaching saturation point. Port Klang Authority expects Port Klang to grow by 4 or 5% each year, hence the "Phase 2" expansion plan for Port Klang West.

 

The Port Klang West Marina waterfront will be expanded by 4.8 km to add eight berths, while four berths will be built in the first phase of Port Klang II, which is expected to be completed by 2043. Once the second phase of the expansion is completed, Westports will be able to handle an additional 13 million TEUs to meet demand over the next 10 to 15 years.
