"Container Yard" and "Handling Efficiency"
Container yard: refers to the place in or around the container terminal for the transfer and storage of containers, and sometimes the container yard is also called the yard. The imported goods will be stored in the storage yard, and the owner will also go to the storage yard when he needs to pick up the container.
The speed of container pickup mainly depends on whether the shipping company will store the goods in the public dock yard or the special dock yard. Special terminal refers to the cooperation between a shipping company and the terminal, and the container ship has the priority to visit the port and the priority to load and unload the goods, and the exclusive storage yard refers to the special storage yard for the container goods of the shipping company. For example, CMA CGM's EXX airline has a dedicated yard at TraPac Terminal.
In addition, the reason for affecting the efficiency of the container is that the container does not match the frame, if the container matches the frame, the truck driver with the truck head can directly pick up the container.
Take the situation in the United States container yard as an example: because the American truck head is separated from the frame, in the shipping season, many truck teams will delay the time of picking up the container because they do not wait for the matching frame.
"Inner Yard" and "Outer Yard"
Container yard can be divided into internal yard and external yard. Internal and external storage yards are another reason that affects the efficiency of container handling. The storage yard in the port is usually located in the range of the wharf and has a certain distance from the hinterland of the port. The off-port storage yard is located outside the scope of the wharf, generally located on the channel between the port and the hinterland.
There are two types of stacking in the outer yard. One is wheeled, that is, the containers are stored separately in the yard and equipped with a frame. The truck driver only needs to carry the truck head to the yard and can directly pick up the container. This kind of container lifting efficiency is quite high, and the container goods in the external storage yard do not need to make an appointment in advance.
Another stacking method is the ground, that is, the ground pile. The containers here will be stacked on top of one another, and there is no gantry crane that can move back and forth like the dock in the outer yard, only the front crane. The front lift can only lift the top container, so the containers in the ground pile are waiting for the matching frame, and it will take a certain amount of time to find the container and finally remove the container, so the efficiency of the container will be much slower.
