The new Boeing 777-200F flies, CMA CGM opens the first air trans-Pacific route!
Cma CGM Cargo has announced that its third Boeing 777-200F freighter has been delivered on August 18, 2024. The cargo plane is flying a new trans-Pacific route linking Asia and North America.
This milestone marks a significant step forward in CMA CGM Air Cargo's global business strategy and aligns perfectly with the Group's goal of providing a full range of solutions to its customers.
A new milestone in CMA CGM Cargo's global expansion
The new B777-200F freighter will be operated by Atlas Airlines after delivery and will play a key role in the expansion of CMA CGM's cargo network. The freighter now operates a new strategic route, serving airports such as Hong Kong, Chicago and Seoul. The first commercial flight was completed on August 26, 2024, from Hong Kong (HKG) to Chicago (ORD) with a technical stop in Anchorage (ANC). In the westbound segment, freighters fly from Chicago (ORD) to Hong Kong (HKG) via Seoul (ICN).
With the two Boeing freighters in service, CMA CGM Cargo will operate a total of seven flights per week on the trans-Pacific route to serve its customers.
By 2025, the delivery of the third freighter will further strengthen the fleet, thereby expanding the service range of the CMA CGM Cargo fleet and providing more capacity to customers.
Since 2022, two Boeing 777-200F freighters operated by CMA CGM Cargo have been operating from their Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) hub on routes between Europe and Greater China, flying five times a week to Hong Kong and four times a week to Shanghai.
Damien Mazaudier, Chief Executive Officer of CMA CGM Cargo, said: "The launch of this new route between Chicago and Hong Kong is a strategic milestone in the history of CMA CGM Cargo. The United States is one of the strategic priorities of the CMA CGM Group and we are proud to expand the CMA CMA Cargo network to the United States. The new route was opened thanks to the delivery of our third B777 freighter. This is a highly efficient long-range freighter, allowing us to open new trans-Pacific routes for our customers while also being able to cope with a volatile market." This new asset is also key in promoting sustainable development in the air cargo sector and perfectly aligns with CMA CGM's long-standing objectives."
