Port investment boom in the Philippines

Port investment boom in the Philippines

Philippine International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) plans to build a new international port in Bauan, Batangas Province, Philippines, with an investment of US$800 million.

Construction of the new terminal is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2025, with the first berth expected to be completed by the end of 2027. When fully completed, the terminal will have a shoreline length of 900 metres, be equipped with at least eight quay bridges, and have a design capacity of more than 2 million TEUs.

Located 120 kilometres south of Manila and 9 kilometres west of Batangas City, the new terminal fits into ICTSI's vision of establishing a nationwide port network in the Philippines.
Through this initiative, ICTSI will further strengthen its supply chain network from the Philippines to the rest of the world and enhance its competitiveness in global trade.

Once completed, the new terminal will be the second largest container terminal in the Philippines after the Manila International Container Terminal (MICT), providing strong support for the movement of goods in the Philippines and globally.

In recent years, there has been a lot of investment in ports in Southeast Asia, and the Philippines has also seen a boom in port investment. Previously, ICTSI has expanded the Manila International Container Terminal (MICT). Recently, the Office of the President of the Philippines said in a statement that Adani Ports Group intends to develop a deep-water port in Bataan province of the Philippines, with a maximum water depth of 25 metres, which can accommodate Panama-class container ships.
