Wanhai Shipping issued an important announcement!
On October 7, Wan Hai Shipping announced that it will start using biofuels in its global fleet today, in response to the 2030 and 2050 emission reduction targets set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
According to reports, Wanhai Shipping's 4333TEU "Tai Chun" has become the company's first ship to use biofuels, which is currently operating in the Far East on the CI6 route to India.
Through a partnership with fuel supplier KPI Ocean Connect, the ship has replenished B24 biofuel in Singapore. The International Sustainability and Carbon Emissions Certified (ISCC) biofuel is a blend of used cooking oil methyl ester biodiesel (UCOME) and very low sulfur fuel oil (VLSFO), and is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 20% compared to conventional low sulfur fuels.
Wanhai Shipping further said: "The adoption of biofuels is an important step on our road to carbon reduction, and we have a responsibility to find greener solutions and further achieve our ESG energy savings and carbon reduction goals by using low carbon fuels in our fleet."
