U.S. imports of cases from China are at a record high
The Port of Los Angeles handled a record number of containers in July as US retailers stocked up ahead of the year-end shopping season. In July, the Port of Los Angeles handled 936,000 TEUs of containers, up 37% from a year earlier.

The International Longshoremen's Association (ILA), which represents port workers on the East Coast and Gulf of Mexico, is preparing to strike if a new contract is not reached. In the first seven months of 2024, the United States imported 15.6 percent more containers than in the same period of 2019. In July alone, the volume of imported containers in the United States increased by 11.2% month on month, by 16.8% year on year, and by 16.3% compared with 2019, reaching 2,556,200 TEU. Among them, US imports from China reached 1,022,900 TEUs, a record high.
