Two ships collide in Singapore port causing a fuel spill

Recently, a dredger collided with a fuel tanker in the port of Singapore, resulting in a large oil spill.

It is reported that the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) was notified on June 14 that at around 2:20 PM local time, the Dutch dredger Vox Maxima docked at the Brazilian Banrang terminal collided with a Singaporean tanker Marine Honour, causing damage to the Marine Honour's oil storage tank. Fuel leak.

Van Oord said in a statement that both vessels are now safely anchored and in stable condition, with damage above the waterline. No injuries have been reported and it does not affect the safety of navigation or the berthing of the vessel at PSA Singapore.

Since the same evening, many beaches in Singapore have appeared large oil stains, and the authorities have closed many beaches and stopped water activities in order to carry out cleanup work. It is reported that the seaside area of Sentosa, the Labato Nature Reserve and the South Island have been affected, and clean-up work is underway.

The MPA said in a statement that more than a kilometre of containment booms had been laid and more would be laid in the coming days to prevent oil from washing up on beaches. More containment booms will also be used to prevent oil that has washed ashore from drifting back into the sea.

The MPA said it had set up an operations centre for its staff and those from key stakeholders and expected to launch a formal investigation shortly.
