MSC adds new routes to Africa, and cargo efficiency is upgraded again!

 

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has announced that it will further strengthen its Southern Africa route network by optimizing existing routes and adding two new short ferry services to boost the region's trade connectivity with Europe and other global markets.

 

Route updates and new services

NWC services to South Africa

 

Provides direct flights between Northern Europe, South Africa and Namibia, with the addition of a direct link to Walvis Bay in Namibia.

 

Walvis Bay will serve as a transit hub for New Northwest Europe (NWC) to South Africa services, enabling more efficient movement of goods from Europe.

 

Namibia Express

Connecting Cape Town, South Africa and Walvis Bay, Namibia, to provide solutions for European cargo transit through Cape Town to Namibia.

 

MSC Himanshi III will depart Cape Town on 8 January 2025 and is expected to arrive in Walvis Bay on 11 January.

Port rotation: Cape Town (South Africa) - Walvis Bay (Namibia) - Cape Town (South Africa).

 

Mozambique Shuttle Service

It connects Walvis Bay (Namibia), Maputo and Beira (Mozambique) and extends to Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) and Mombasa (Kenya).

Maiden voyage Information: MSC Imma III will depart Beira on 14 January 2025 and is expected to arrive in Walvis Bay on 24 January.

Port rotation: Beira (Mozambique) - Walvis Bay (Namibia) - Durban (South Africa) - Maputo (Mozambique) - Mombasa (Kenya) - Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) - Beira (Mozambique).

 

The newly revised NWC service to South Africa will make its maiden voyage on 20 January 2025 by MSC Rosaria from London Gateway, UK.

 

Port rotations are as follows:

London Gateway Port (UK) - Bremerhaven (Germany) - Rotterdam (Netherlands) - Antwerp (Belgium) - Le Havre (France) - Sinis (Portugal) - Las Palmas (Spain) - Walvis Bay (Namibia) - Gekberha (Port Elizabeth, South Africa) - Durban (South Africa) - Cape Town (South Africa) - Las Palmas (Spain) - London Gateway Port (UK).

With the designation of Walvis Bay as MSC's new transit hub for the west coast of Southern Africa, European goods can be more smoothly transported via NWC services to South Africa. At the same time, the new Namibia Express Line and Mozambique short ferry service will further enhance MSC's internal network coverage in Africa, providing a more efficient logistics solution for connecting Northern Europe, South Africa and East Africa.
