Recently, CMA CGM Group announced that it will cooperate with Folk Maritime to upgrade the Red Sea route.
The new route, named NRX (North Red Sea Express), will be operated by two smaller container ships to provide weekly services connecting Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt as a way to expand logistics capacity in the northern Red Sea.
From April 2024, two vessels will be deployed on the route to provide weekly services. The maiden voyage will depart from Jeddah on April 9, 2024 by the vessel "Jin Shun He".
Port sequence: Jeddah RSGT – Jeddah DPW – Neom – Sokhna – Aqaba – Yanbu – Jeddah RSGT. It is understood that the ship "Jin Shun He" left Nansha on March 9 and is expected to arrive in Jeddah on March 27.
Olivier Nivoix, Executive Vice President of CMA CGM Group, said, "CMA CGM Group is pleased to partner with Folk Maritime to provide this upgrade to connect the Port of Jeddah with the growing market demand for the future new city of Saudi Arabia (Neom) and other key ports on the Red Sea. ”
Olivier Nivoix believes that this service will not only help Saudi Arabia expand its logistics capabilities in the Red Sea, but will also provide better services to CMA CGM's customers. Since March 2023, CMA CGM Group has been the first to launch direct service to Neom in this key region.
It is reported that Folk Maritime is a recently established liner company, headquartered in Riyadh and led by veteran Danish expert Poul Hestbæk.
The shipping company defines itself as the first dedicated feeder operator in Saudi Arabia, connecting the kingdom with other major ports on the Red Sea, serving the Middle East and beyond.
